Gentle Sleep Training
Evidence-based baby sleep support with personalised sleep plans and one-to-one consultations.
Does this sound like your baby?
Because you’re here, it’s likely you’ve been Googling solutions to some or all of the following issues with your child’s sleep:
Your baby is waking multiple times a night - sometimes hourly
Your baby needs a lot of support to go to sleep
Your baby can only fall asleep being fed or rocked to sleep
Your baby wakes before 6am every morning
Your baby will only ever nap with contact
If your baby does nap in a cot, those naps are short (30 minutes or less)
You feel as though your day has no structure
You’ve been co-sleeping to get more sleep, but you’d prefer not to long-term
Your bedtime routine isn’t calm and always involves a meltdown
You want a gentle solution to move away from co-sleeping, feeding to sleep and contact naps, but don’t want any solution that requires you to leave your baby alone to cry or be unresponsive to your baby.
You've likely done plenty of searching online and joined forums and Facebook groups, and you've probably noticed that the debate is polarizing. It seems like you either have to wait it out and share a bed with your child, or sleep train using cry-it-out methods. There doesn't seem to be any middle ground.
You can make responsive and loving changes to your child's sleep habits to optimise their sleep, and it doesn't have to involve crying it out.
Janine Orford
Baby Sleep Practitioner, London
Hi, I’m Janine,
nice to meet you!
I'm Janine, an OCN Level 5 Certified Sleep Consultant. I am also known on social media as The Bedtime Champ. I’m a mother of two football-mad boys and two cats and I live in South-East London.
I have worked with parents and children for over a decade. In my early 20s, I gained experience as a live-in nanny, caring for children aged 1 to 10 in Italy, Spain, and the UK. Before establishing my baby and child sleep consultancy, I spent 12 years working for the UK's largest online parenting community, Mumsnet.
At Mumsnet, I experienced the power and value of online communities, but also witnessed the confusion and overwhelm caused by conflicting information and polarizing debates on parenting topics. These debates cause overwhelm and make parents doubt their instincts.
I've had my own share of sleep challenges and sleep deprivation as a mother. My older son, Ralph, who is 7 years old, had silent reflux and severe tongue-tie from birth, which went untreated. Although he seemed to sleep well at night, daytime was a battle, as he rarely napped and was often inconsolable. After getting the right treatment and incorporating gentle sleep training and a solid routine, the situation improved significantly, and I was able to enjoy parenting more.
In contrast, my younger son, Rupert (age 2), had no problem napping, but only when held in someone's arms or a sling. Placing him in a cot would result in a meltdown. Desperate to find a solution, I sifted through a wealth of conflicting advice, much of which went against my instincts as a parent.
The conflicting information and advice on sleep training and parenting, in general, can be overwhelming for many families.
Numerous parents have expressed their appreciation for my sleep support, describing it as both comforting and compassionate, consistently prioritising the well-being of the baby and the entire family.
I will never force a generic sleep plan on you that goes against your parental instincts.

Having had lots of reservations about using a sleep consultant. After months of awful sleep, we came across the bedtime champ on social media. We have since seen huge improvements in our little ones' sleep. And have no regrets.
During the whole process, Janine has been very professional and maintained great communication. We have found her easy to talk to about our babies' problems, and the coaching has been very adaptive during these last few weeks.
We have gone from 1-2 hourly wake ups to one wake-up a night. And regular naps in the cot. This wouldn't have happened without Janines support.
We feel we have the confidence and tools to continue with our sleep journey.
Our lives as parents have changed and improved greatly, and I'm finally getting more time to myself. What a bonus!

I had a chat with Janine back in May. She was so thorough and holistic in her approach. I felt like she really listened to the troubles we were having with my son’s sleep and what we had already tried. Thank you Janine, I just wish I had spoken to you sooner

Janine is wonderful!
We have sought her guidance multiple times, she has always been so knowledgeable and reassuring.
She really understands the anxiety of a sleep-deprived parent.
I’ve recommended her to all my friends dealing with the toils of sleep training in the early years.
